BONELOAF – CONTENT CREATION GUIDELINES
Last updated on 20th April 2023
Hello! We (that’s Boneloaf) want you to be able to create, share and use awesome stuff based on Gang Beasts, so we put together these guidelines to help you. They also include some legal stuff at the end (we’re sorry about that, but our lawyers said we need to protect our games, you and us).
If you have any questions, you can reach us at support@boneloaf.co.
If you are a company and have related queries about using our games as part of a commercial offering (e.g. a tournament or a scene in a TV show), please contact us at press@boneloaf.co.
SO WHAT CAN I DO WITH BONELOAF’S GAMES?
You can do anything you like (within reason and if it follows these Guidelines). Here are some examples:
- Making YouTube/TikTok videos or streams (more on this below).
- Drawing fanart involving our characters and stages and posting this online (e.g. on your own blog or somewhere else).
- Creating a community website, fan page or news group.
- Take screenshots and share them on social media (we love seeing you all hanging off the gondolas!)
WHO OWNS THE STUFF YOU CREATE BASED ON OUR GAMES?
As far as we and you are concerned, you own the new stuff based on our games you create but we need you to give us certain rights over it so that we can actually transmit it and use it for our games. So, our legal team asks that you give us a non-exclusive, permanent, irrevocable, worldwide, sub-licensable, royalty-free licence to use, modify, reproduce, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, perform communicate and exploit your new stuff in connection with our games.
Just to be clear, we always own the games themselves and its contents (such as characters, setting, gameplay and appearance). Please also remember about the Golden Rules described in detail below.
CAN I MAKE VIDEOS/LET’S PLAYS/STREAMS FOR BONELOAF’S GAMES?
Yes! We welcome you to stream and create videos, Let’s Plays and machinima about our games for distribution on online video platforms (like YouTube or Twitch), as long as they comply with these Guidelines. There is an important condition however: the content must also be distributed for free: monetising such content via standard advertising revenue on video/streaming/online platforms (including Twitch paid subscription model) is OK, but we are not OK with you monetising it in any other way without our written approval – this includes using our games to promote someone else’s products or services. For video content at tournaments/events, please see below.
CAN I HAVE TOURNAMENTS, EVENTS OR LAN PARTIES FOR BONELOAF’S GAMES?
Yes! We welcome these kinds of ways to enjoy our games with other people. Tournaments/events/LAN parties that are for amateurs, not ran to make money and do not have a big prize pool are OK. The same goes for any videos/streams of them too. If you would like to run a public commercial tournament or some other event for our games that does not follow our Golden Rules below, please get in touch with us first (see our email address below!)
THE GOLDEN RULES:
We want to make sure that our games remain great and we do not see copies, mutations or other kind of clones flying around. So, our legal team asked us to put in place some “Golden Rules” – here they are:
1. No commercial usage. You cannot do anything with our games for any commercial or money-making purpose (except as we explained above).
2. Make it clearly ‘unofficial’. Please make it clear that your new stuff based on our games is “An unofficial fan work under the Boneloaf Fan Content Guidelines. Not approved/endorsed by Boneloaf”. Please do not do or say anything which makes anyone think we endorse or support you. The stuff you make based on our games is your responsibility.
3. Don’t put it in other games/products. Your new stuff based on our games should stand on its own – it should not be incorporated into a third-party game or product (whether or not for commercial use). If you are a modder and want to make a fan mod of our games in another game, please contact us for permission first (which will be at our discretion).
4. Don’t hurt us or others.
Please be respectful to other players and our games! Please do not do or say anything regarding our games that is illegal or could hurt our games, Boneloaf or any users of our games.
Please make sure your content is age appropriate for the audience of our games – you’ll be able to see our age ratings on the game’s store pages.
Your new stuff can use our games of course, but please do not infringe the rights of other people (such as other games, movies, books, TV shows etc.)
5. Follow the legal rules. These Guidelines are our informal guidance to you, but the full legal rules are the Boneloaf Terms of Service and Boneloaf Privacy Policy. If there is any conflict between these Guidelines and those documents, then those documents win.
CHANGES TO THESE GUIDELINES
We expect these Guidelines to be updated from time to time as people make cool new stuff based on our games – we will post an update on https://gangbeasts.game/ when that happens. Once we change these Guidelines, it will become legally binding immediately we post it online. You're welcome to contact us at support@boneloaf.co if you have specific questions about the changes.
Please note the permissions given to you under these Fan Content Guidelines may not last forever and we may change or revoke part or all of these Fan Content Guidelines if we deem it necessary, particularly for the protection of the company or our games.
ANYTHING ELSE?
If something is not clear to you in these Guidelines, ask us! If there is anything you think we could add to make it clearer let us know)! All rights and other matters not in these Guidelines are reserved to us. Again, you can contact us at support@boneloaf.co.
