Happy Birthday to Gang Beasts, Happy Birthday to Gang Beasts, Happy Birthday Dear Gang Beasts...

Happy Birthday to Gang Beasts!

Shocking! Gang Beasts is a gristly ten years old on 14th February this year. Horrifying! It will be ten years since Gang Beasts awkwardly lurched onto Steam Early Access on 29 August 2014.

Thanks!

Boneloaf want to thank the Gang Beasts community: players, content makers, audiences, events, Boneloaf staff, friends and family, and development, platform, merchandising, and marketing partners for making Gang Beasts a success. Thank you, thank you.

What?

We’re working with Rocket Science on stability and game systems. Currently we’re modifying some key systems to support more stable and frequent bug fixes and more frequent costumes, stages, and other game content for Gang Beasts.

And?

We’re working with Unity on sandbox content (with some associated props/hazards) set in the test rooms of the antiseptic Meat Company Laboratory - stuck in the restricted lower intestines of the nefarious Meat Company Facility.

Why?

We made some sandboxes, debug rooms, and other fun experiments to test character movement, enemies, forces and masses for props/hazards, and for event and education contexts but didn’t make them playable in the full game. We’re working with Unity on sandbox and playset content to open more of these gameplay experiments to owners of the game.

When?

The next post about Gang Beasts is scheduled for the 14th February and will have information on the next build and some information on other game developments.

Here is a summary of updates that are currently in development or testing:

  • 1.21: The 1.21.1 build is a set of bug fixes addressing a number of issues, the 1.21.1 build is expected to release in the coming weeks (when testing ends).
  • An Addressables Asset System build. We worked with Unity to build support for Unity’s addressables system to make the testing and and distribution of Gang Beasts content less difficult/slow.
  • A systems build, a build with a significantly modified version of the custom interaction scripts that allow characters to interact with hardware and machinery on some stages (this system is needed for the next stage).
  • The next stage, this build adds the next stage for the Melee and Gang modes with some miscellaneous costumes, and an escalation with birds.

And?

We plan to stagger the release of these updates over the next 2-4 months to track and minimise the potential for errors and issues.

Then?

We plan to give more information on online, stages, costumes, game modes, UI, accessibility, and other work in subsequent posts.

What else?

We are excited to support our friends at Day of The Devs. Day of the Devs is now a non-profit organisation that hosts in-person and online events to promote games from independent game developers. Boneloaf will be sponsoring Day of the Devs events throughout 2024. If you can afford to donate to the current Day of the Devs campaign a donation of $100+ comes with a gift pack of Steam games and a donation of $250+ comes with the games and some splendid Day of the Devs merchandise.

Bye.

Thank you for playing and supporting our silly multiplayer party game. More information is coming soon. If you have any issues or suggestions please email support@boneloaf.co

Stay Gangly,

Boneloaf

Oh! We said a new stage is coming. Here's Crane:

The Crane stage is a ginormous shipping container crane standing on the Beef City Docks.
